The Neuromuscular Research Centre of the Ottawa Hospital provides clinical care and cutting‑edge research to patients with neuromuscular diseases, including ALS/Lou Gehrig's disease, myasthenia gravis, muscular dystrophy, and peripheral neuropathies (diabetic neuropathy, Guillain‑Barre Syndrome).

Key Responsibilities Include

Job duties include coordinating all aspects of clinical trials in neuromuscular disease, including:

  • Research ethics board (REB) applications, renewals, and amendments
  • Planning / design of study budgets
  • Participant screening and recruitment
  • Coordinate all aspects of clinical trial visits – including nursing and physician assessments, physiotherapy assessments, EKG, biospecimen acquisition and handling, electrophysiology testing, and respiratory measurements.
  • Quantitative data collection including participant questionnaires, functional assessments, and telephone follow-ups.
  • Data entry using a variety of database software
  • Compliance with monitoring visits
  • Provide support to adults affected by neuromuscular disease
  • Participate in meetings (including travel to investigator meetings) and conference calls as required
Basic Requirements
  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in a health science related field or equivalent.
  • Prefer minimum one (1) year of clinical research experience (consent, recruitment, data collection)
  • Effective verbal and written communication in French and English
  • Attention to detail to ensure accuracy of data and adherence to protocol requirements
  • Strong computer skills:
    Word, Excel, and various database software
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to work independently, yet able to take direction from various resources when needed
  • Evidence of training certification in Tri‑Council Policy Statement
    -2 (TCPS‑2) and the International Conference on Harmonization – Good Clinical Practice Guidelines (ICH‑GCP)
  • Evidence of training in Food and Drug Regulations, Division 5, and/or Device Regulations, as applicable
Preferred Qualifications
  • Phlebotomy experience is an asset
