Tier 1 Research Chair in Healthcare Simulation

Position Overview

Associate or Full Professor (or eligible for promotion to full professor within 1-2 years) and Canada Research Chair, Tier 1 – School of Nursing and/or School of Computer Science (Health Care Simulation). Tenured appointment. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience and track record. Start date January 1, 2028. Closing date will begin consideration July 4, 2026.

• Health care simulation systems and platforms
• Artificial intelligence and data‑driven approaches to simulation, training, and performance assessment
• Virtual, augmented, and mixed reality applications in healthcare delivery, education, and practice
• Human‑centered systems design and outcome‑based evaluation in simulated environments
• Computational modeling and analytics to support healthcare decision‑making, learning, and safety
• Simulation‑based NSE innovations in healthcare
• Cross‑appointment opportunities in Nursing, Computer Science, or other academic units
• Commitment to health‑driven research questions and engagement with health education and practice contexts

• Lead a high‑impact research program focused on technology development and application in health and health care contexts
• Shape technology‑forward graduate curricula and research in nursing, computer science, and engineering
• Mentor graduate students and postdoctoral fellows from nursing, computer science, or engineering
• Collaborate with colleagues to embed simulation, data science, and emerging technologies across teaching and research
• Build and sustain external research partnerships with regional health care providers and national/international research networks

• PhD in health technology, computer science, engineering, nursing with a technology focus, or a closely related discipline
• Internationally recognized record of research excellence and leadership appropriate for an NSERC Tier 1 CRC nomination
• Sustained record of high‑impact publications and successful external NSE‑focused research funding
• Exceptional training and mentorship program for diverse undergraduate and graduate students and postdoctoral fellows
• Collaborative research approach and strong commitment to mentoring
• Dedication to advancing equity, diversity, and inclusion in research design, practice, and mentoring
• Proven innovative and scholarly NSE research leading an externally funded, high‑quality research program
• High potential for collaborative research with members of Nursing and/or Computer Science
• Willingness to comply with funders’ terms and conditions for research security compliance
