OpportunityWe invite you to join the WSP archaeology team as an Archaeology Field Technician II based in our Burlington, Mississauga, Whitby, London, Ottawa, and Thunder Bay Offices. This is a seasonal position for the 2026 field season, starting in Spring 2026 as soon as weather allows. The role is covered by a collective bargaining agreement negotiated by LiUNA.

Responsibilities- Complete archaeological fieldwork under the supervision of an experienced Field Supervisor, including Stage 2 surveys (field walking and test pitting), Stage 3 site-specific assessments, and Stage 4 mitigations.
- Work independently where necessary, connecting with supervisors as required for clarification.
- Assist in the collection and maintenance of detailed field notes, and with surveying and grid set‑up, as required.
- Support Field Supervisors and provide assistance to other field technicians, offering mentorship when needed.
- Maintain high standards of ethical and professional conduct, demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model.
- Work outdoors in varied weather and ground conditions.
- Ability to work daily at field site locations and an enthusiasm for fieldwork in a team environment.
- Physical capability to perform demanding tasks (hand shoveling, troweling, screening soil) and to lift up to 40 lb.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, capable of relaying information to Field Supervisors promptly.
- Team player with ability to work independently when required.
- Readiness to travel for out‑of‑town projects, including hotel stays.
- Valid Ontario driver’s license and clean driving abstract; reliable transportation to and from WSP project sites.
- Knowledge of archaeological artifacts.
- Bachelor’s degree in Archaeology, Anthropology, or related field is an asset.
- Minimum of three (3) field seasons of archaeological experience in Ontario, including shovel testing and excavation of test units.
