that this opportunity includes both full‑time and part‑time positions. If you’re selected, you’ll start your journey as a Nuclear Security Officer (NSO) and receive comprehensive in‑house training designed to set you up for success. Once you complete the program and pass the required certification, you’ll step into the role of a fully qualified Nuclear Response Force (NRF) Officer. will you be doing!
- Providing conventional emergency response and tactical response intervention to apparent threats at CRL (Chalk River Laboratories) in accordance with CRL procedures, federal and provincial legislation, and regulatory requirements.
- Providing conventional Security Services at a nuclear facility as prescribed in the Canadian Nuclear Safety and Control Act to protect people and the environment.
- Maintaining and effectively employing various lethal and less lethal weapon systems, personal protection systems, and technical equipment.
- Maintaining response readiness and fitness for duty at all times in accordance with the requirements of a safety‑critical worker.
- Conducting pedestrian and vehicle access control to a high‑security facility in accordance with CRL operating procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Searching employees, visitors, and contractors for weapons, explosives, and other unauthorized materials entering a high‑security area.
- Searching for the unauthorized removal of fissile material in CRL’s high‑security areas.
- Monitoring Security and Fire alarm systems, CCTV surveillance, access control systems, access denial systems, and dispatch/ support CNL emergency services.
- Reporting all emergent, safety, or security situations to supervision and/or management.
- Operating specialized protective equipment, i.e. Light Armoured Vehicles.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Education
- Secondary School diploma or equivalency.
- Post‑Secondary School diploma, degree, or equivalent with concentrated studies in security, police, law, or a military‑related discipline is considered an asset.
- Experience
- Previous law enforcement, security, police, or military experience is considered an asset.
- Experience in safe handling and tactical deployment of lethal and non‑lethal weapon systems is considered an asset.
- Experience in a control room, emergency dispatch center, and/or operation of physical protection systems is considered an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- General knowledge of the Nuclear Safety and Control Act, Nuclear Security Regulations, and associated Security Regulations for a High Security Site.
- Must have the ability to develop a detailed understanding while in the Nuclear Response Force Officer position.
- Knowledge of Federal and Provincial Laws applicable to the responsibilities of a Nuclear Response Force Officer. (i.e. Canadian Criminal Code, Firearms Act, Trespass to Property Act, and the Highway Traffic Act).
- Knowledge of safety, security, radiation protection fundamentals, health, personal fitness, and wellness is necessary to perform armed security functions.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate both verbally and in writing.
- Basic Knowledge of computer fundamentals.
- Ability to work in a team environment or individually with limited supervision.
- Must possess and maintain a valid ‘G’ Province of Ontario Driver’s License or equivalent
- Must possess and maintain a Restricted/ Non‑Restricted Possession Acquisition License.
- Canadian Citizenship required (Public Agent Authorization Requirement)
- Pursuant to Section 18.2 (b) of the Nuclear Security Regulations, must successfully pass Medical Clearance, Psychological clearance and physical fitness testing.
