The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada's bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in streams including the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety. The NAC is located in the National Capital Region on the unceded territory of the Anishinabe Algonquin Nation. Responsibilities

Reporting to the Manager, Security Services, the incumbent is accountable for the security of the NAC facilities while providing security, information and customer service to visitors and staff. Additional duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Attend the central command office by managing access for visitors, artists, deliveries and employees and responding to inquiries and operational needs.
  • Document all routine activities and incidents using the Security Management Software.
  • Monitor fire alarm panels, CCTV systems and other video surveillance equipment.
  • Operate access control systems, including sensors and motion alarms, and investigate disturbances.
  • Direct pedestrian and vehicle traffic inside and outside NAC premises.
  • Administer building keys and access cards.
  • Respond to medical emergencies and provide first aid, CPR or AED support until emergency services arrive.
  • Provide outstanding professional and responsive customer service while assisting with safety concerns, illness or emergencies.
  • Conduct regular patrols of the facility at all times, including outside performance hours.
  • Monitor and support crowd control during performances, events, or during high-volume periods.
  • Secure the premises by locking and unlocking entrances or doors as required.
  • Maintain situational awareness and respond proactively in high-volume or dynamic environments.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma
  • Minimum of three (3) years of related security experience is preferred
  • Valid provincial Security Guard License is required
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, CCTV and Security Management systems
  • Must be able to stand, walk and exert mobility for up to eight (8) hours
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently
  • Effective organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, and discretion when interacting with patrons and employees
  • Demonstrated commitment to customer service excellence
  • Fluently bilingual in English and French with strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including use of radios, emails and telephone
  • Demonstrated ability to write clear, accurate, and detailed daily reports
  • Ability to follow directions and work with limited supervision
  • Ability to work under pressure and respond calmly and efficiently in emergency situations
  • Knowledge of crowd control in emergency situations
  • Understanding of the Ottawa downtown core environment
  • College diploma in Law & Security is an asset
  • First Aid and CPR certificates are assets
  • WHMIS training is an asset and may be required upon…
