The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Field Support Bureau Commander are seeking a qualified individual to join our Offender Transport Unit. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will maintain the safe and secure custody and control of offenders being transported between detention/correctional and court locations, and to ensure the proper working order of security and restraining equipment and OPP vehicles used in the performance of duties.
Note:
This position is located in Ottawa, ON and is a fixed-term contract for one year for 0-20 hours/week with possibility of extension. This competition will be used to fill current and future temporary vacancies for Offender Transport Officer positions in Ottawa.

The Offender Transportation Program of the Ontario Provincial Police was formed in 2001. It is responsible for the transportation of male and female, adult and young persons, between secure institutions and the courts, on behalf of municipal police services as well as the OPP. The Offender Transportation Program is a cooperative between the Ministry of the Solicitor General, the OPP, and the Ministry of Children Community and Social Services (MCCSS).

To maintain the safe and secure custody and control of offenders being transported between detention/correctional and court locations, and to ensure the proper working order of security and restraining equipment and OPP vehicles used in the performance of duties.
What can I expect to do in this role?
To manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.
What you bring to the team Mandatory requirements- Ability to pass an OPP background/ security investigation, including a psychological assessment.
- Certification in emergency first aid and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Heartsaver Certificate (CPR) in order to administer first aid to offenders; must maintain training and certification.
- Must possess and maintain a valid Class G Driver's licence for the purpose of transporting offenders.
- Must meet requirements of basic physical fitness testing and maintain basic level of fitness to provide required safety and security services.
- Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain Special Constable status.
- Ability to work shifts and weekends.
- Must be a Canadian citizen or a permanent resident of Canada
NOTE:
Unless you are a current Offender Transportation Officer you are required to attach; proof of First Aid and CPR Level “C” and a current Drivers Abstract (no older than one month prior to initial job posting date) with your resume. Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of related policies and procedures and relevant sections of legislation, including Criminal Code, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Ministry of Correctional Services Act, Human Rights Code, Occupational Health and Safety Act.
