Laboratory Assistant Float (Full‑Time Contract, 6 month)

Location:

Kakulu Rd, Kanata, Ottawa, Arnprior, Carleton Place, Barry's Bay, Bayshore, Barrhaven and Renfrew. Work Style:
On Site. Shift: Day Shift, Monday to Friday, 6:30 am – 5:30 pm and half day on alternate Saturdays.

MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.

• Obtain quality blood samples and other specimens from patients using skillful venipuncture techniques.
• Sort and steer specimens, perform ECGs, Holter hookups, paternity, urine, drug and breath alcohol collections.
• Accurately enter patient and test information for Ministry of Health requisitions.
• Ensure specimens and supporting documentation are completed as required in SOPs and ready for data entry and transportation to the laboratory, following established protocols for handling suitable and unsuitable samples.
• Maintain confidential information securely and contribute to meeting departmental/corporate quality metrics, regulatory compliance, and quality indicators.
• Create an ideal customer‑experience by engaging individuals with empathy, care, and kindness, thereby ensuring patient satisfaction.

• Completed Secondary School and a Laboratory Assistant training program or a Medical Lab Assistance course with specialized training in phlebotomy.
• Customer‑focused with a genuine care for patient health.
• Skillful in phlebotomy, able to manage anxious patients through the sample‑obtaining process, providing a pleasant, calming, and reassuring environment.
• Prioritize and self‑manage within a deadline‑oriented environment.
• Extremely detail‑oriented.
• Proficiency in English, both written and verbal, enabling clear communication of instructions to patients.
• MLPAO/CSMLS Certification is strongly recommended.

Pay rate: $20.00‑$23.75 per hour. The hiring pay range has been established; however, the final pay offer will be determined by taking into consideration various factors including but not limited to, level of experience and education requirements.
