We are currently seeking Powerline Technician (PLT) Apprentices to join our growing team to support a multi‑year Distribution project in Central Ontario. Reporting to the Construction Foreman, PLT Apprentices assist in the installation and inspection of electrical distribution facilities, drive and operate line trucks, operate associated equipment, and perform other miscellaneous duties as required. We are open to new Apprentices who are registered with an applicable Provincial Apprenticeship program as well as Apprentices Level One through Four who are looking to continue their journey towards their Journeyperson Powerline Technician Certificate.
DutiesAnd Responsibilities
- Work with a Journeyperson Powerline Technician and gain hours towards obtaining Journeyperson Certificate
- Climb and work from heights and parallel to energized circuits
- Erect and maintain poles, towers and guy wires
- Splice, solder and insulate conductors and related wiring to connect power distribution networks
- Open and close switches and install grounding devices to lines and equipment
- May climb poles and/or ride in bucket to install or repair wires, arms, insulators or other hardware on poles
- Install and repair underground facilities such as cable, transformers, potheads and pedestals
- Install pole hardware and auxiliary equipment such as transformers, lightning arresters, switches, fuses and insulators, using hand tools and mechanical devices
- May cover energized lines with rubber goods to facilitate safe handling of high‑voltage lines without interrupting service
- Use insulated poles (hot sticks) fitted with mechanically or hydraulically operated grasping and crimping tools and/or rubber gloves and sleeves to perform energized line work
- Must be enrolled, or eligible to enroll, as a PLT apprentice with the Ontario Apprenticeship and Trade Certification Commission
- Valid Driver’s License and ability to provide an acceptable Driver’s Abstract
- Willingness to work away from home and work a variety of shifts
- Knowledge of trade safety practices, procedures and safety requirements
- This project will be a unionized worksite. Candidates must be willing to join Canadian Union of Skilled Workers (CUSW)
- Level One, Two, Three or Four Powerline Technician Apprentice
- Depending on qualifications, the successful candidate may be offered a position at a more appropriate level
