Position #Salary Range Starting at $49,750.00 plus benefits POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Manager of Education and the direct supervision of the Silatuniq Youth Engagement Program Supervisor, the Student Support Services Worker provides culturally responsive support, education, and advocacy to schools, students, and families to promote academic achievement and overall student success for elementary and secondary students. The role is responsible for delivering high-level case management support, coordinating services, monitoring student progress, facilitating communication between schools and families, and connecting students with appropriate educational, cultural, and community resources to support their well‑being and engagement in school.
KEYDUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provide information and referrals to families needing additional supports for students’ success in school
- Provide responsive and inclusive support services to parents and students including school registration, school integration, school re engagement, appointment accompaniment, supportive counselling and assistance with communication for under years students
- Support with life skills and helps with social determinants of health.
- Knowledge of educational IPRC and IEP process in schools.
- Provide information and orientation to parents regarding the educational system, the rights of parents/students, roles and responsibilities.
- Case management responsibilities are required
- Encourage/facilitate parent/student engagement in school related activities for students under 17 years old.
- Accountable for the effective and efficient coordination of Silatuniq student support services in keeping with partner and funding agreements.
- Additionally, remain committed to completing all required reports on time, as timely and accurate documentation is essential for our ongoing success and compliance. Working as a team player is also a priority
- Work regular and consistent weekly hours of work.
- May be required to work evening and weekend hours for programming and community events.
- Additional hours on occasion to meet deadlines and ensure delivery of high‑quality programs and services.
- Experience working with Inuit or Indigenous communities.
- Post‑secondary education in humanities related field, (CYW, SSW, BA, SW,).
- Experience in project collaboration, outreach, program delivery and quality assurance.
- Equivalent combinations of education and relevant work experience will also be considered.
- Fluency in Inuktitut an asset.
- Knowledge of the needs of Inuit youth and families.
- Knowledge of Inuit and non‑Inuit community services and supports.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Ability to operate computer systems and relevant software.
- Strong organizational, program planning, evaluation and problem‑solving skills.
- Ability to respond effectively in crisis situations.
- Ability to work in a collaborative staff team environment.
- Ability to take feedback.
- Ability to function effectively in a high stress, high noise environment.
- Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing in English
- Criminal Reference Check for the Vulnerable Sector Check required, in keeping with Inuuqatigiit policies and procedures
- Medical certification of good health and fitness to work
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccine (Dose 1 &
2) and booster - TB Test if applicable and other immunizations up to date
