Recruits are trained at the Agency’s primary training centre: the Canada Border Services College in Rigaud, Quebec. Based on operational needs, some training may take place at other CBSA training locations.

* All candidates are required to attend an information session, complete an entrance exam, interview, document validation, psychological assessment, attend a Physical Abilities Test information session, complete a medical assessment, Canadian firearms courses, second language evaluation (for bilingual positions only), and a security screening.

Successful candidates who are accepted as a recruit are invited to complete the Officer Induction Training Program (OITP) which is comprised of:
• Three weeks of facilitated distance learning online; and,
• Fifteen weeks of in-residence training.
Note:
The OITP timeline is approximate and may be subject to change.
While participating in the OITP, you are provided a tax-free allowance of $525/week to cover basic expenses. While attending in-residence training at the Canada Border Services College, you are also provided with lodging (room with individual bathroom) and meals.

If you are successful in the OITP, you will report to your assigned port of entry to continue your development as a CBSA Officer Trainee (Developmental) (FB-02) in the Officer Induction Development Program. After a minimum period of 12 months, successful CBSA Officer Trainees (Developmental) will be recommended for promotion to a Border Services Officer (BSO) (FB-03) position, at which time your annual salary will increase to $85,211 to $101,058 (salary under review).
If you are working as a bilingual BSO, you will also receive a bilingual bonus of $800 per year.
