We are searching for a Staff Level iOS Software Engineer to join our Engineering Team. As a Staff Software Engineer you will provide technical leadership for the development team, guide highly technical design decisions, and mentor less experienced developers. You will take on the most difficult technical challenges, define mobile tech strategy, architecture, and best practices across iOS app platforms, support mobile backend APIs, mobile CI/CD tools, and testing automation, and ensure the successful release of CNN’s mobile apps to end consumers.

CNN's New Business engineering team is looking for a Staff iOS Engineer to build innovative DTC mobile apps. The role focuses on creating new, standalone products beyond news—experiences that enrich users’ lives and grow the subscription business. You will shape the technical direction of our iOS apps from rapid prototyping to production delivery while collaborating with cross‑functional partners to deliver engaging products for a large audience.

• Architect and build intuitive, simple, and elegantly designed mobile apps that people want to use.
• Provide support and develop software tools and procedures to extend and enhance the core production pipeline.
• Work with Product, Design, Delivery, Editorial and Engineering to implement CNN Digital consumer experience solutions and apps.
• Assist with troubleshooting production problems, root cause analysis, and debugging.
• Develop and maintain existing production systems supporting CNN’s digital ecosystem.
• Mentor more junior developers.
• Ensure software development follows industry best practices, policies, and guidelines, including architecture, security, corporate governance, coding standards, monitoring, logging, unit testing, and service enablement.

• BS/MS in computer science (or equivalent).
• Demonstrated advanced understanding of troubleshooting, root‑cause analysis, application design, solution development, human factors/usability design, and implementation of projects for major business units or the enterprise.
• Strong foundation in programming fundamentals such as data structures and algorithms.
• Ability to develop new and innovative applications as well as maintain existing code.
• Demonstrated full‑mobile stack development experience with mobile native clients, SDKs, and APIs (Swift/Objective‑C, SwiftUI, iOS platform).
• Demonstrated expert knowledge of software development methodologies, practices, and architecture, specifically experience architecting performant, scalable, and secure mobile apps.
• Hands‑on experience with mobile Dev Ops CI/CD tools and implementing best practices, including automation of deployment, code signing tools and automated tests. Preferred familiarity with Git and Bitrise.
• Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbal, with technical and non‑technical cross‑functional teams.
• Experience building flexible software architecture to accommodate shifting business needs.

• Knowledge of Cloud Computing platforms such as Amazon AWS.
• General familiarity with database technologies (SQL/RDBMS, No
  
  SQL, GraphDB, etc.).
