Position: Senior Java Developer to support projects and initiatives in the development of Java applications in the public sector
Our public sector client is seeking a Senior Java Developer (Secret, 10+ years) to support projects and initiatives in the development of Java applications within government digital transformation programs
Contribute to high-impact digital transformation initiatives within a leading Government of Canada organization focused on innovation and economic development. This role supports the design, development, and maintenance of scalable Java-based web applications across multiple public service platforms. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver secure, reliable, and compliant solutions aligned with federal standards and cloud modernization goals. This engagement provides visibility across mission-critical digital programs supporting modernization excellence for Canadian citizens and businesses.

Must Haves
10+ years in Java application development across public sector or enterprise environmentsHands-on experience with Java JEE
, Spring Boot
, Hibernate
, RESTful services
, and SQLProficiency with CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, Bamboo, or Git Lab for automated build and deploymentExperience with AWS cloud and Open Shift Container Platform for hosting and maintaining applicationsValid Secret clearance or higherPost-secondary education in Computer Science or related fieldNice to Have
Experience applying federal standards and guidelines within IT service deliveryExposure to Agile ceremonies and development processesKnowledge of JIRA for issue tracking and status managementResponsibilities
Analyze business requirements and translate them into technical specifications aligned with ISED standardsDesign, develop, test, deploy, and maintain Java applications supporting departmental business unitsImplement and enhance RESTful web services and SOAP interfaces to enable system communicationLead and participate in Agile ceremonies including stand-ups and sprint planning sessionsPerform troubleshooting and bug fixing using JIRA and other issue management toolsProduce documentation and operational procedures compliant with departmental guidelinesCollaborate with project managers, designers, and testers to ensure cohesive delivery of secure, reusable solutionsProvide technical knowledge transfer and status reporting throughout project lifecycles
