Senior Software Engineer - Product Lead

The Senior Software Engineer is a technical leader and subject matter expert who combines hands‑on software development with team leadership and mentorship. In this role, the successful candidate will guide project execution while supporting the professional growth and technical development of Junior and Intermediate Software Engineers. The Senior Software Engineer will lead agile software development teams, translating business goals and objectives into actionable technical strategies and driving successful project delivery.

As both a technical lead and individual contributor, they will actively participate in all stages of the software development lifecycle, from planning and design through implementation, testing, and delivery.

The successful candidate will support Lockheed Martin's existing in‑service support contracts, contributing to the development of first‑of‑its‑kind mobile‑enabled technology designed to enhance the operational effectiveness of our submarine fleet. In this role, the Senior Software Engineer will plan, coordinate, and execute software development activities, including the design, development, documentation, testing, debugging, and maintenance of software solutions. They will apply established standards, processes, procedures, and tools throughout the development lifecycle while ensuring alignment with program objectives and regularly communicating progress to stakeholders.

Responsibilities also include troubleshooting and resolving software defects, preparing operational instructions and technical documentation, and collaborating with clients and end users to evaluate system capabilities, incorporate feedback, and continuously improve product functionality and operational effectiveness.

This position requires a minimum of two days per week in the office to facilitate collaboration with stakeholders, agile development teams, and subject matter experts across the organization. The Senior Software Engineer will also have opportunities to contribute to broader organizational initiatives through stretch assignments that support business growth and cross‑functional collaboration. These may include supporting Internal Research and Development (IRAD) activities, establishing engineering best practices and guidelines, and driving improvements to processes, tools, and development methodologies in support of enterprise excellence.
