As we look to expand our service offerings in Canada, we are seeking to add an Independent Contractor to our Field/Driver Training team who will assist with conducting training for drivers operating commercial motor vehicles between 10,001 - 26,000 pounds.
Training consists of classroom instruction, range training, road training, and a road test. This opportunity is for an Independent Contractor only and does not constitute an employment relationship. Independent Contractors must reside in Canada and be legally authorized to perform services within Canada.
- Operate as an independent safety consulting business (e.g., sole proprietor, incorporated entity, or equivalent)
- Provide services to multiple clients and maintain a non-exclusive consulting practice
- Supply their own tools, methodologies, instructional materials, and business processes necessary to deliver services
- Be responsible for all taxes, insurance, and business-related expenses
- Provide their own computer, equipment, and tools necessary to perform services
- Maintain appropriate professional liability coverage, as required under the contractual agreement
Travel requirements vary based on client engagements, audit needs, and training delivery, and are defined by project or statement of work.
Type of Services Requested- Conduct classroom training on DOT regulations, safe vehicle operation, and other topics related to the safe and effective operation of a Commercial Motor Vehicle.
- Administer road test to evaluate the driver’s ability to effectively and safely manage the vehicle in environments they will encounter on the job. Determine final pass/fail on driving skills.
- Assist with identifying and obtaining appropriate training locations (classroom, range, and behind-the-wheel), vehicles and other resources necessary for training.
- Ensure training materials and other resources are available and operational when needed.
- Carry out responsibilities in a fair, ethical, and non-discriminatory manner.
- Class A driver training experience, including classroom and behind-the-wheel
- Experience using electronic logging devices and applications
- Proficiency using business productivity tools (MS Office suite) necessary to deliver reports, presentations, and training materials
- Excellent communication skills - written, verbal and presentation
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively with client representatives at all levels
- Maintains a high level of regulatory expertise
- Possesses a valid license and has the ability to operate the type(s) of vehicles used in the training
- Ability to comply with the Federal Driver Qualification File requirements
- In-depth knowledge of Commercial Motor Vehicle regulations
- Bi‑lingual in English and French strongly preferred for certain client engagements, in applicable geographic areas
