Now Hiring Roll Off Driver at our Ottawa Hauling site!

This is a union position located at our Ottawa hauling site.

Starting Wage: $35.72/hr start time: early morning start times. Shift: Monday - Friday. Preferred:
Candidates with at least 1+ years of CDL experience.

Job Summary

Drivers operate heavy‑duty trucks with front, side, or rear‑end lift attachments depending on the line of business and the type of truck. They transport material to a disposal, transfer or recycle facility when trucks reach legal load capacity. Commercial Drivers pick up containers filled with waste or recyclable material; containers may weigh over 1,000 pounds and require maneuvering. Commercial Drivers navigate high‑traffic and congested roadways, driveways, alleyways, and lots, and rely on highly skilled backing maneuvers.

Residential Drivers collect residential household waste or recyclable material and must safely maneuver vehicles in residential environments. Roll‑off Drivers prepare, load, and transport large mobile open‑top and compactor containers from customer locations, navigating driveways, alleyways, lots, and high‑traffic roadways, often in tight overhead environments while on industrial routes. Highly skilled backing maneuvers are essential to perform this job effectively.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Operate vehicle in accordance with Waste Management Safety and Life Critical Rules, OSHA, DOT requirements, and all local, state and federal laws.
  • Perform pre‑ and post‑trip inspections of assigned vehicle and document checks using the DVIR (Driver Vehicle Inspection Report).
  • Immediately report all unsafe situations or service‑related issues to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
  • Attend and participate in all scheduled training programs, briefings, and meetings as required by WM or directed by the Route Manager.
  • Work closely with Operations Manager to improve route efficiencies and identify best practices.
  • Notify Operations Manager of any incidents, accidents, injuries, or property damage.
  • Notify Operations Manager or Dispatch of service interruptions, including closed or impassable streets or alleyways, receptacles too heavy to service, or potential safety hazards.
  • Communicate customer requests to Operations Manager or Dispatch.
  • Completely dump all receptacles and leave the customer’s location clean and free of debris.
  • Follow route assignments as directed and complete end‑of‑day documentation and check‑out process.
  • Perform all duties as scheduled by Operations Manager or Dispatch and assist other drivers as directed to meet customer needs.
Qualifications
  • Required Qualifications
    • 1 year operating a vehicle requiring a CDL.
    • 1 year equivalent military driving within the last 7 years.
    • Able to read, write, and speak English well enough to interact with the public, understand traffic signs, respond to official questions, and complete records or reports.
    • Must be at least 18 years of age.
    • Legally eligible to work in the country where the position is located.
    • (CDL) Class A Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
    • (CDL) Class B Commercial Driver License with an air‑brake endorsement upon hire.
  • Preferred Qualifications

    Pay:
    The expected base pay range for this on‑site position is $35.72. This range represents a good faith estimate for this position. The specific salary offered to a successful candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors including the candidate’s relevant experience, education, training, certifications, qualifications, and work location.
