Duties

As a Civil Aviation Safety Inspector, you play a critical role in ensuring the safety of Canada’s air navigation system. You will oversee compliance with the Aeronautics Act and Canadian Aviation Regulations by assessing operations, identifying risks, and working closely with industry and government partners.

  • Plan and conduct aviation safety oversight activities such as inspections, audits, assessments, and validations.
  • Exercise delegated Ministerial authority and oversee delegated authorities.
  • Identify, assess, and document aviation safety risks, and recommend effective risk‑management solutions.
  • Review operational and technical documentation, evaluate performance, and prepare briefing notes and correspondence.
  • Engage with a wide range of stakeholders, including senior management, industry representatives, and internal and external partners.
  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver a nationally integrated aviation safety oversight program.
  • Support and promote Transport Canada and Government of Canada priorities across technical and operational domains.

This role combines analytical work with real‑world operational exposure and meaningful influence on aviation safety.

Qualifications Education
  • Successful completion of a training program recognized by Transport Canada in air traffic control, or area of air traffic control, oceanic air traffic control, and/or terminal air traffic control.
  • International education must be assessed for Canadian equivalency.
Experience
  • Significant experience in the delivery or support of air traffic control services.
  • Experience in writing, reviewing, and analyzing technical documents, manuals, or reports.
  • Significant experience is defined by the richness, complexity, and diversity of tasks, level of autonomy, and variety of operational contexts.
Knowledge
  • Knowledge of the Canadian Aviation Regulations related to the provision of air navigation services.
  • Knowledge of the rules, standards, and procedures of the International Civil Aviation Organization applicable to air traffic management in Canadian and international airspace.
  • Knowledge of the classification and structure of Canadian airspace.
  • Knowledge of the principles of Safety Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of the Civil Air Navigation Services Commercialization Act.
Abilities
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing.
