JOB DESCRIPTION
Job Title: Construction Equipment Operator
Reports to: Project Manager
Employment Status: Full-Time
Summary:
The Construction Equipment Operator is responsible for performing routine equipment checks and maintenance, loading and unloading equipment, and ensuring sites are kept clean. They observe the movement of earthwork and complete relevant paperwork and reports. To be successful, an Equipment Operator must consistently follow health and safety regulations and be able to take instructions from superiors. Outstanding Equipment Operators should display excellent hand and foot coordination and always seek ways to improve efficiency.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operate backhoe, excavator, bulldozer, skid steer, and vibratory roller
- Maintain and use equipment in accordance with safety regulations
- Clean, lubricate, and perform safety checks on equipment
- Position equipment correctly before operation
- Train new crew members in safe equipment operation
- Perform other construction duties as assigned
- Monitor the safe distribution of concrete and materials
- Report faults to the Site Supervisor promptly
- Keep sites clean and safe
- Attend safety meetings and refresher courses
- Identify faults and troubleshoot equipment
- Perform other related duties as needed
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Relevant licenses and safety certifications
- Experience operating construction equipment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong safety knowledge
- Ability to follow instructions under pressure
- Teamwork and interpersonal skills
- Ability to meet deadlines
- Understanding of health and safety codes
- Positive attitude and willingness to learn
- Completion of an apprenticeship program is advantageous
Physical Demands:
Must lift 50 pounds, remain stationary for at least 50% of the workday, and operate field equipment. Capable of traversing terrain in outdoor weather, and able to stoop, kneel, or crouch. Must wear PPE and enter confined spaces as required.
