To start in April or September 2026, we are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Psychology who is able to develop and inspire our pupils, and who wishes to participate in and contribute to the life of the School as a whole.

The role

We are seeking an exceptional Teacher of Psychology to develop and inspire our pupils and be part of our vibrant School community. In return for your dedication and expertise, you can expect to be highly valued and offered further development and support throughout your career. Oundle is a full boarding school with extensive opportunities beyond the curriculum. The role of a teacher usually involves two thirds teaching, with the remaining time split between tutoring and co-curricular activities.

We always do our best to match your interests and experience with your commitments.

You will be required to carry out the general professional duties of a school teacher under the reasonable direction of the Head and to perform such particular duties that from time to time may reasonably be assigned you by the Head. You would teach approximately 42 periods per fortnight in addition to committing to contribute to the co-curricular life and pastoral support provided by the School.

For full details of an overview of the School, details of the responsibilities and requirements for the role including the benefits on offer please see the Information pack available below.

The department

Psychology at Oundle is taught by a team of three subject specialists. Pupils of all academic ability can study Psychology in the Sixth Form, and each year around 40 pupils opt for this subject at A level. The department successfully supports around 15 pupils each year as they prepare to read Psychology or related subjects at leading universities, including Oxbridge.

The department follows the AQA specification. Pupils study Social Influence, Clinical Psychology and Mental Health, Memory, Attachment and Biopsychology topics in the Lower Sixth, with Research Methods interleaved throughout. In the Upper Sixth they study Approaches, Issues and Debates, Gender, Schizophrenia and Forensic Psychology, again with Research Methods interleaved throughout. Assessment in the Lower Sixth is internal, given the nature of the linear course.

At the end of the Lower Sixth year pupils are required to complete an internal research project to develop and consolidate their Research Method skills and knowledge. Results last summer saw 79% of pupils achieve grades A*- B at A Level at the end of Upper Sixth.

The department offers Psychology-focused days for pupils, a well-stocked department library, and speakers from a variety of research and professional backgrounds are regularly invited and hosted by the Senior Psychology Society; recent speakers include Professor Alan Baddeley, Dr Sam Wass, and Dr Guy Sutton. The senior pupils also organise and lead a Junior Psychology Society for the younger year groups in the School.

All classrooms in the Psychology department are equipped with a screen and the ability to cast from your School issued Microsoft Surface Pro computer.
