The Lead Construction Technician performs inspections and staff oversight on significant projects and will lead other inspection staff and/or projects themselves.

Essential Functions
- Oversees inspection and testing activities for one or more projects
- Provides oversight and develops skills of inspection staff
- Inputs data into pre-written computer programs
- Operates computer systems to run reports or calculations
- Interprets construction plans and specifications
- Observes construction operations to assess conformance to plans and specifications
- Performs construction materials testing, develops budget estimates and proposals
- Provides clear written documentation of activities and site conditions
- Communicates effectively with staff, contractors, and clients
- Works independently, managing staff on projects regularly
- Identifies issues, determines solutions, and implements steps
- Participates in training and maintains relevant certifications
- Documents work and expenses in the company system
- Seeks increased responsibilities and collaborates with management
- Trains technicians and leads improvement initiatives
- Maintains client relationships and develops new business opportunities
- This position may have direct reports
Qualifications
Experience
- 8+ years in construction inspection or trades
- Experience with public agencies or consulting firms is a plus
Skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook)
- Effective communication at all levels
- Exceptional customer service skills
- Time management and self-starting ability
- Reliable vehicle for site travel
- Physical requirements:
lifting up to 50 lbs, walking stairs, flexible hours, travel including nights, outdoor conditions
Education
- High School diploma or GED
- KDOT Inspection certification
- Additional experience in engineering or construction management is advantageous
