Adjunct Spanish Professor

Overview

Adjunct Spanish Professor role at Johnson County Community College (JCCC). This part-time adjunct faculty position supports the Foreign Language Department within the Communications Division, teaching Elementary and/or Intermediate Spanish (in-person and live online via Zoom).

The Foreign Language department is seeking a Spanish adjunct professor to teach Elementary level Spanish language. The position may involve teaching the equivalent of 5-10 credit hours or serving as a substitute professor. Responsibilities include collaboration with full-time and adjunct faculty and performing other duties as assigned.

• Provide extra and co-curricular opportunities for Spanish language students.
• Participate in planning and administration of departmental initiatives.
• Participate in on-campus events promoting languages.
• Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
• Assist with substitute teaching as needed; demonstrate a 30-minute class during interview (in person or via Zoom).

• Master of Arts degree in Spanish
• Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses
• Excellent communication and collaboration skills
• Knowledge of using technology in the classroom
• Ability to teach online using Zoom or similar platform
• At least 2 years of post-secondary teaching experience or 4 years of high school teaching experience

• Understanding of the climate of post-secondary institutions
• Knowledge of ACTFL World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages
• ACTFL OPI certification (advanced mid or higher) or equivalent
• Ability to teach Chinese, German, Japanese, or French with HLC credentials
• PhD in Spanish
• Experience teaching Elementary and Intermediate Spanish language courses
• At least 4 years of post-secondary teaching experience
