How you will make an Impact (Job Summary)
SPX is a diverse team of unique individuals who all make an impact. As a Senior Product Development Engineer, you will lead the design and development of new coil products-including evaporative, adiabatic, hybrid fluid coolers, condensers, and evaporators-while supporting R&D initiatives and value engineering efforts. The incumbent will create sound, manufacturable design solutions using 3D modeling and thermal-fluid system expertise, coordinate cross-functional efforts with sourcing and manufacturing, and ensure compliance with industry codes and performance standards.
This role plays a key part in driving product innovation, standardization, and cost efficiency while ensuring on-time project delivery and continuous product improvement.

What you can expect in this role (Job Responsibilities)While each day brings new opportunities at SPX, your core responsibilities will be:
- Serve as a technical authority for heat transfer product design, establishing and maintaining design standards and best practices.
- Perform advanced thermal-fluid, structural, and manufacturability analyses; act as a final approver for complex engineering decisions.
- Develop and release complete engineering packages, ensuring compliance with ASME, UL, IIAR, and AHRI codes.
- Drive innovation by leading feasibility studies, concept development, and early-phase technology evaluations.
- Lead multiple NPD and VA/VE programs from concept through launch, ensuring schedule, budget, and quality adherence.
- Forecast and plan engineering resources for assigned product lines; align work plans with business priorities.
- Develop engineering KPIs and report progress related to quality, cycle time, and productivity.
- Identify opportunities for cost reduction, standardization, and design optimization across product families.
- Lead design reviews and act as the primary engineering interface with Manufacturing, Sourcing, Product Management, Sales, and Customer Support.
- Communicate technical risks, tradeoffs, and recommendations to stakeholders to support high-quality decision making.
- Support vendor selection through technical bid evaluations and oversee successful integration of new components and technologies.
- Represent Engineering in customer discussions, escalations, and strategic supplier engagements when expert guidance is required.
- Mentor junior engineers and designers, providing technical coaching and guidance on analysis methods, codes, and design best practices.
- Lead continuous improvement initiatives, including root-cause investigations, standardization efforts, and process enhancements.
- Oversee engineering documentation, configuration control, and quality of technical outputs for assigned programs.
- Champion the development and maintenance of design tools, templates, and engineering rule libraries.
