The Opportunity- Work collaboratively with design and execution teams across the U.S. and abroad.
- Perform mechanical system design for water and wastewater projects.
- Execute engineering calculations to size equipment and define system performance.
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select technically acceptable design solutions.
- Follow company and industry design practices in all development work.
- Develop engineering work products including P&, mechanical layout drawings, and equipment, piping, and valve specifications.
- Review manufacturer or contractor submittals, data, and reports for conformity with Black & Veatch criteria.
The Mechanical Engineering Department delivers high‑quality, on‑time design and services in Power, Gas, Fuels & Chemicals, Water and Wastewater, and other sectors. Our Water/Wastewater team design and optimize drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, and recycling solutions from concept through operation.
Preferred Qualifications- Developing detailed project drawings and technical specifications.
- Experience with equipment and systems used in water and wastewater treatment, including pumping, blowers, aeration valves, compressed‑air systems, large‑bubble mixers, anaerobic digestion, heating boilers, heat exchangers, and steel piping.
- Material selection and sizing of piping systems and equipment.
- Understanding of hydraulic principles relevant to water/wastewater facility design.
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
- Active engineering registration or licensure to serve as engineer of record (EOR) where required.
- Typical office environment with prolonged sitting and computer use; attention to detail required.
- Physical tasks during site visits (crouching, grasping, standing/walking) may be required.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and performance.
