About the RoleShamrock is hiring an experienced State & Local Tax Manager to own multi‑state compliance, drive process efficiency, and advise leadership on SALT strategy. You’ll handle complex returns (franchise, excise, property), oversee registrations, lead tax audits, and partner across the business to optimize our tax posture as we scale.
What You’ll Do- Prepare, review, and file franchise, excise, and property tax returns across multiple jurisdictions; ensure accuracy, completeness, and timeliness.
- Complete state registrations and maintain tax accounts; coordinate with taxing authorities as needed.
- Prepare year‑end tax calculations and schedules; resolve any open questions with external tax accountants.
- Conduct technical SALT research and translate findings into clear recommendations.
- Identify tax‑saving opportunities and state incentives that align with business goals to optimize Shamrock’s tax position.
- Lead state and local audits, notices, and inquiries; prepare responses and negotiate issue resolution.
- Perform periodic nexus studies to assess exposure and ensure appropriate filings and registrations.
- Analyze and improve SALT processes (close, compliance calendar, documentation); drive repeatable workflows and internal controls.
- Recommend automation/technology enhancements (e.g., data pipelines, tax engines/reporting tools) to increase scale, speed, and accuracy.
- Review both internally and externally prepared tax filings; manage timelines across cross‑functional shareholders.
- Partner with internal teams such as Legal, Sales, Operations, and Finance to understand the tax implications of various business activities and transactions.
- CPA required.
- Corporate in‑house experience at a multi‑entity, multi‑state company;
Big‑4 background a plus. - Exposure to indirect taxes and incentive programs.
- Strong understanding of state and local tax regulations, filings, and compliance requirements.
- Proven ability to manage audits, independently research complex tax issues, and develop effective tax strategies.
- Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and familiarity with tax preparation software.
