MTS, Systems Architecture Engineering role at T-Mobile
Job OverviewThe System Architecture Engineer’s role is to develop and evolve technical network and service architectures and design strategies to maintain, enhance, and evolve the T‑Mobile Technology portfolio. This role is responsible for protecting the software, infrastructure, and network systems that power T‑Mobile’s IT and customer‑facing services, ensuring scalability, availability, performance, security, and reliability across applications and networks. The engineer will proactively identify and prevent network issues before they impact customers and play a critical role in outage bridges, leveraging KPIs, telemetry, and AI‑driven analytics to pinpoint problems quickly and accurately.
From designing and maintaining CI/CD pipelines to operating large‑scale network infrastructure (Cisco, Juniper, Check Point, F5, Infoblox, A10), the SNRE enables great customer experiences through automation, observability, and innovation.
- Create new designs, architectures, and standards for delivering software and network services faster, better, and more reliably.
- Improve scalability, latency, and efficiency of T‑Mobile’s applications and network services.
- Contribute to cloud enablement, containerization, and microservices reliability.
- Manage improvement work, PoCs, and future automation projects.
- Diagnose and resolve complex issues in routers, firewalls, load balancers, DNS, and global traffic managers (Cisco, Juniper, Check Point, A10, Infoblox, BIND, F5 GTM).
- Proactively forecast and address capacity and performance bottlenecks to prevent outages.
- Provide network expertise on outage bridges, rapidly identifying root causes using developed KPIs and telemetry.
- Define standards and playbooks for fault prevention and outage handling.
- Build and operationalize telemetry pipelines with Service Now AIOps, Dynatrace, Thousand Eyes, Sev One, Splunk, and Open Telemetry.
- Develop AI/ML‑driven models to detect anomalies and predict failures across network, infrastructure, cloud, DNS, and application layers.
- Create and maintain dashboards and health checks for real‑time visibility into system and network reliability.
- Use Terraform and IaC to deploy and manage infrastructure and applications in AWS cloud.
- Integrate reliability practices into CI/CD pipelines and Dev Ops workflows.
- Define, measure, and optimize performance KPIs, SLIs, and SLOs across hybrid environments (on‑prem + cloud).
- Deep understanding of system parameters, configurations, and how to alter them for desired results.
- Proactively identify system weaknesses, determine root cause, and find solutions for improvement.
- Own complex network and service architecture design, strategy, and standards.
- Understand adjacent processes and workflows, influencing technology decisions in public forums.
- Lead engineering projects and team members through design, testing, and implementation.
- Supervise principal level engineers and present project improvements to executive teams.
- Engage vendors and industry fellows to innovate procedures, validating and enhancing network architecture.
- Diagnose and redesign architecture to meet changing business requirements and objectives.
- Create, present, and implement new ideas that improve systems, processes, and services.
- Investigate architecture and design strategies to address new service offerings early.
- Contribute to industry or vendor forums on behalf of T‑Mobile.
- Analyze industry trends and competitive moves, proposing appropriate actions.
- Write advanced documentation, architecture, capabilities, limitations, and advantages for technologies.
- Produce literature for multiple disciplines and executive summaries.
- Contribute to industry publications and professional forums.
- Monitor and influence relevant industry technologies and standards.
- Present highly technical concepts to technical and non‑technical decision makers.
- Mentor and coach engineers across functional…
