Assistant Professor, Computer Science and Information Systems
Johnson County Community College invites applications for a full‑time faculty position in the Computer Science and Information Systems (CSIS) department, beginning August 2026. The role requires a combination of teaching in data science, applied artificial intelligence, and advanced computer science courses, as well as participation in college mission and industry partnerships.
Position SummaryThis full‑time faculty position begins in August 2026 in the CSIS department. CSIS encompasses computer science, information systems, data science/data analytics, and is currently developing applied artificial intelligence courses. Current CSIS needs include developing and teaching courses in data science/data analytics and applied artificial intelligence. Faculty are required to teach an average of 15 credit hours per semester across face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online formats, with a regular on‑campus presence.
The selected candidate is expected to demonstrate mastery of subject matter, teaching, and evaluation of student learning, participate in professional development, contribute to college policies, and collaborate across the department and industry partners.
- Teach 15 credit hours per semester, including CS, CIS, and DS curricula.
- Develop and maintain course materials, syllabi, assignments, and assessment instruments.
- Provide timely, constructive feedback and evaluate student learning.
- Participate in departmental and college planning, including curriculum reviews and faculty meetings.
- Engage in professional development and stay current in the field.
- Support the college mission through service, community outreach, and industry collaboration.
- Required: Master’s degree or higher in computer science or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Required: Minimum one year of related teaching, full‑time, adjunct, or graduate teaching experience.
- Required: Proficiency in data science/data analytics and/or applied AI:
Python, SQL, data visualization, machine learning, NLU, LLMs, or computer vision. - Required: Ability and desire to teach a variety of CSIS courses.
- Preferred: Experience teaching data science or AI, curriculum development, and modern LMS (e.g., Canvas).
- Preferred: Experience with innovative student‑centered pedagogies, including active learning, project‑based, and service learning.
- Preferred: Familiarity with K‑12 and higher education CS landscapes.
- Competitive salary range $54,122–$91,437, based on experience.
