This position will coordinate, participate, and direct the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed.

Annual Salary Range:
$39,976.59 - $51,734.41
Your Specific Responsibilities:
- Coordinate, participate, and direct the maintenance activity of the chemical herbicide program and/or the assembly and erection of highway signs as needed.
- Assist in selecting materials, supplies, and equipment; inspect and plan workloads, workflows, deadlines, and work objectives; maintain records of operations.
- Prepare and maintain daily paperwork such as crew activity reports and vehicle checklists.
- Operate vehicles and equipment upon receipt of the CDL Instructional permit or license, performing preventative maintenance and inspections.
- Perform light maintenance and assist in repairs of equipment, checking and adding fluids, and maintaining proper air pressure.
- Perform manual labor for highway, bridge, and other highway facility maintenance using various tools.
- Motivate crew members to improve work quality and assist in evaluations; communicate regularly with employees and train crew members in basic Temporary Traffic Control.
The Successful Candidate will have the following required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of: mathematical calculations, safety rules, procedures, use of medium/heavy equipment, crew leading principles.
- Skills in: operating hand and power tools, maintaining equipment, record-keeping, verbal and written communication.
- Ability to: train others, read job-related materials, develop effective working relationships, lift up to 50 pounds, work outdoors in various conditions, and work independently.
Other Job-Related Requirements:
- Respond to emergencies and be “on-call” as needed.
- Possess a valid Class “E” driver’s license and obtain a Class “B” CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days, and a Class “B” CDL with air brakes within 10 months.
- Maintain certification in Temporary Traffic Control (Maintenance of Traffic).
- Work with or around Department of Corrections inmates.
- Herbicide applicators must be licensed by the Department of Agriculture and Consumer Affairs in three areas: core curriculum, right of way, and aquatics.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent; or one year of infrastructure construction/maintenance experience as a substitute.
- Class E driver’s license required at hire;
Class B CDL Instructional Permit within 60 days; and a CDL Class B license with air brakes and tanker endorsement within 10 months.
Applicants must have a valid Class (E) driver license with an acceptable driving record, with specific disqualifications detailed regarding violations and suspensions.
