JOB TITLE:

Play & Learn Lead

REPORTS TO:

Youth & Family Director and/or as assigned FLSA TYPE:
Non-Exempt, Hourly

JOB PURPOSE:

Under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor, Play & Learn Leads are responsible for working directly with children, ages 6 weeks-12-year-old. Play & Learn Staff play an integral role in the development of building strong character values in youth. All staff are representatives of the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its youth development programs. Staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL

FUNCTIONS (not a complete list):
  • Maintain supervision of children at all times.
  • Acknowledge and greet each member and child entering the program area.
  • Interact with children through programmed activities.
  • Keep the program area clean and equipment well organized.
  • Plan and implement weekly curriculum.
  • Plan and lead Parents Night Outs
  • Communicate regularly with parents/guardians.
  • Ensure necessary reports are completed and submitted to supervisor in timely manner.
  • Assist with leading professional development for branch huddles such as directing an activity or providing feedback of skills that may be needed for upcoming development meetings.
  • Maintains current and accurate knowledge of YMCA programs, policies, and procedures.
  • Adhere to all organizational policies and procedures regarding the prevention of abuse.
  • Report any suspected abuse, neglect, or misconduct immediately to the appropriate supervisory staff.
  • Attend mandatory training on abuse prevention, including recognizing signs of abuse, and reporting requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

Required:
  • Must be 18 years old
  • High school degree or GED.
  • Minimum 6 months experience working with ages 6 weeks – 12 years.
  • Desire to work with children.
  • Current CPR/First Aid/O2 certification (will provide upon employment)
Preferred:
  • Bilingual - English/Spanish.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Associate’s degree, teacher certification or higher
