Position: Play & Learn Staff- Mon- Fri (4pm-8pm)

JOB TITLE: Play & Learn Staff

REPORTS TO: Program Director and/or as assigned

FLSA TYPE: Non-Exempt, Hourly

Job Purpose

Under the direct supervision of the assigned supervisor, the Play & Learn Staff is responsible for working directly with children. Play & Learn Staff play an integral role in the development of building strong character values in youth. The staff at all times is representative of the philosophy, mission and goal of the YMCA and its Play & Learn program. Staff may be asked at any time to work at a variety of locations.

There will be a direct focus on member retention, member recruitment, safety, and customer service. All staff must strive to work cooperatively with fellow employees to achieve the goals and objectives of the YMCA.

Principal Activities and Essential Functions
  • Interpret and administer all policies established by the YMCA, to all members, participants, employees, etc.
  • Acknowledge and greet each member and child entering Play & Learn facility.
  • Interact with children through Play & Learn programmed crafts and activities.
  • Use positive behavior management techniques when disciplining children.
  • Ensure the safety of children while in Play & Learn
  • Be punctual and dependable for shifts assigned on monthly schedule by supervisor.
  • Promote member incentive programs each branch offers, such as Parents’ Night Out.
  • Perform all duties with Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility, YMCA’s national core values.
  • Consistently communicate with supervisor regarding cleanliness and safety of facility.
  • Report problems, complaints, or concerns of members/participants to supervisor immediately.
  • Requirements

    Required:

    • At least 18 years of age
    • Minimum 6 months experience working with ages 6 weeks – 12 years.
    • Desire to work with children.
    • Understand the nature of the YMCA as a membership organization.
    • Current CPR/AED/First Aid/O2 Certification

    Preferred:

    • High school degree or GED.
    • Excellent oral communication skills.
    • Bilingual - English/Spanish.
