Customer Service Assistant – Tulsa City-County Library

Location: Owasso Library, 314
E. Fifth Avenue, Suite 202, Owasso, OK 74055
Status: Part-Time, 20 hours / week
Schedule:
- Monday – Thursday: 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm
- Alternating Fridays and Saturdays: 10:00 am – 2:00 pm
Salary: $14.42 / hour
Responsibilities- Provide general information in person and by phone assisting customers in locating and discovering materials, connecting with available library services, or providing information about the library, referring reference questions to the appropriate resource.
- Assist customers with self check‑out machines.
- Register customers by issuing and updating library cards and receive and record fines and lost materials information.
- Maintain orderly service areas.
- May help customers with basic technology and Internet problems.
- May assist librarians with programming, as assigned.
- Actively support TCCL’s Equity, Diversity and Inclusion efforts, and the Library’s Be All In culture.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Knowledge of general library procedures, policies, and operations.
- Knowledge of circulation policies, processes and procedures.
- Ability to help customers with their basic computer needs, including e‑mail, answering Microsoft product questions, and navigating the Internet.
- May work irregular hours including evenings, weekends and occasional Sundays at a Regional or Central Library.
- High school diploma or G.E.D. required.
- Some college level coursework preferred.
- No previous experience required.
- Past experience interacting with customers preferred.
Work regularly requires stooping, bending and light lifting such as three or four reams of paper, four or five books, or other materials (up to 20 pounds). Some positions require moderate physical exertion, such as regularly lifting moderately heavy items (up to 40 pounds) such as crates full of books or pushing heavy (up to 100 pounds) wheeled carts full of books, on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions.
Work environment involves everyday risk or discomforts which require normal safety precautions, e.g. use of safe work place practices with office equipment, and or avoidance of trips and falls. For some positions there are usually no major sources of discomfort; work is essentially conducted in a normal office environment with acceptable lighting, temperature, and air conditions. For some positions there may be occasional minor discomforts from exposure to less than optimal temperatures (extreme cold or heat) and air conditions due to exposure to the outdoors.
