All About General Merchandise

Experts of store process and efficiency who enable a consistent experience for our guests by ensuring product is set, in-stock, accurately priced and signed on the sales floor. The General Merchandise and Food Sales team leads inbound, outbound, replenishment, and promotional signing processes for all General Merchandise (GM) areas of the store. This team conducts inventory accuracy, merchandise set-up and maintenance and pricing processes for all areas of the store.

Experts enable efficient delivery to our guests by supporting pick, pack and ship fulfillment work.

• Knowledge of guest service fundamentals and experience supporting a guest-first culture across the store
• Experience in retail business fundamentals including department sales trends, inventory replenishment, and process efficiency and improvement
• Experience executing daily/weekly workload to support business priorities and deliver on sales goals

Typical Day / Responsibilities

• Create a welcoming experience by greeting guests while completing daily tasks
• Engage with guests to assist with their needs and solve issues
• Thank guests and acknowledge their visit to Target
• Receive products, restock shelves, organize the backroom, arrange merchandise, and set up promotional signs for GM areas
• Operate power equipment to move merchandise or store fixtures if certified
• Change prices, maintain merchandise setup, and ensure inventory accuracy as directed
• Learn how operational procedures affect inventory management, store profitability, and product availability
• Be knowledgeable about resources, products, and services available in the total store, and in your area, to solve guest issues
• Demonstrate ethical conduct, safety and compliance
• Work safely; comply with safety policies, report hazards, and address them where possible
• Support guest services such as back-up cashier and digital fulfillment processes (picking/packing orders, delivering pickup orders) while complying with applicable laws
• All other duties based on business needs

The Good News is that we have training to teach you everything you need to know to be a General Merchandise Expert. However, there are a few skills you should have from the start:

• Welcoming and helpful attitude toward all guests and team members
• Ability to communicate using handheld scanners and other technology as directed
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team
• Resolve guest questions quickly on the spot
• Attention to detail and the ability to follow multi-step processes
• Remain focused and composed in a fast-paced environment and complete multiple tasks within time frames

Additional Requirements / That We Value

• Accurately handle cash register operations as needed
• Climb ladders as required
• Scan, handle and move merchandise safely, including lifting up to 44 pounds without assistance
• Flexible schedule (nights, weekends, holidays) with reliable attendance
• Ability to work in varying temperatures and conditions while performing duties (e.g., drive-up, carryout)
• Mobility for the duration of a scheduled shift
