- Part-time position works as scheduled by the Parks Director.
- Monday through Sunday, 8 a.m.
- 5 p.m. with occasional evening and weekend hours as needed. - FLSA Classification is non-exempt.
SCHEDULE:
Paydays are every other Friday (biweekly) and shall compensate employees for work performed during the 14-day period ending on the Sunday immediately before the payday.
DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF WORK:Under the direction of the Parks Director, the Parks and Recreation Program Assistant performs various tasks related to parks and recreational activities. The position requires exceptional customer service and communication skills, as well as the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
ILLUSTRATIVE EXAMPLES OF WORK:- Assist with the implementation of recreational activities, including athletics, special events, early childhood programs, community programs, outdoor recreation, fitness/wellness, open gym, and other program areas.
- Assist with participant supervision, enforces program rules and policies, and provide instructions as needed.
- Offer high-quality customer service to all patrons of the Parks Department.
- Assist with organizing and preparing activity supplies, performing set-up and break-down duties, and other activity-related items.
- Ensure all equipment is accounted for and returned to its proper storage location.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Parks Director.
- High school diploma or GED
- At least one year of experience working with the general public, managing public facilities, or assisting with special events, or an appropriate combination of related work experience.
- Ability to pass a basic reading, writing, and mathematics exam.
REQUIRED:
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
- Ability to work independently, solve problems without constant supervision, and prioritize tasks efficiently.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with the general public and fellow employees.
- Ability to work varying shifts depending on the programmatic needs of the department.
- Ability to perform physically demanding work assignments and work in diverse environmental conditions.
- Occasional walking, reaching, bending, and lifting or carrying object under 50 pounds.
- Requires the ability to be exposed to outside weather conditions for extended periods of time.
- Use written sources of information, e.g. reading reports, procedural documentation, reference materials.
- Perform detailed work requiring visual acuity.
- Use non-verbal auditory sources of information, e.g. alarms and cell phones.
- Use oral communication to perform work, e.g. answer telephone, receive visitors.
- All applicantsshall reside in either Jefferson County, or a County adjacent to Jefferson County, including any of the following:
Marion, Wayne, Hamilton, Franklin, Perry, or Washington, as theirprincipal place of residence, within six (6) months of hire, and thereafter at all times during the time of their employment by the City. Any employee who shall fail to establish and/or maintain his or her domicile andresidency as required herein shall be subject to discharge from employment with the City.
