Purpose of Position

Due to a vacancy, the Municipality of Grey Highlands is pleased to invite applications for the position of Infrastructure Engineering Technician. Reporting to the Manager of Transportation Infrastructure, the Infrastructure Engineering Technician provides day-to‑day support to the Municipality’s Infrastructure Engineering function. This includes performing application administration duties and reviewing Municipal development proposals, Site Alteration, and Fill applications. The position is responsible for collecting and analyzing information regarding infrastructure changes, identifying potential conflicts with specifications, utilities, and contractors, and recommending solutions.

It also involves collecting and maintaining municipal infrastructure inventory for transfer to the Roads/Fleet, Water/Wastewater, and Asset Management functions.

A key component of this role is reviewing planning applications and related documents and collaborating with Planning staff to ensure development proposals comply with engineering standards, municipal infrastructure and transportation requirements. The Technician will prepare reports, assist in drafting development agreements, tender documents, requests for proposals, and other legal engineering documents. The role also supports the service area in addressing resident and community group concerns.

Additionally, the Infrastructure Engineering Technician contributes to the implementation of the Municipality’s capital works program, all municipal infrastructure projects. This is achieved through collaboration with consultants, contractors, internal departments, and external stakeholders. The position works closely with the outsourced Municipal Engineer to support the development of successful and sustainable new communities.

Major Responsibilities
  • Conduct advanced technical reviews of development plans, reports, and studies, and provide professional engineering advice and support to the Manager of Transportation Infrastructure on all development‑related matters.
  • Participate in comprehensive engineering reviews and respond on behalf of the Municipality.
  • Work closely with other internal municipal service areas, upper tier governments including County, Provincial and Federal agencies and the Municipalities engineering consultants to ensure compliance with the Municipality’s Engineering Guidelines and other design guidance documents and industry standards.
  • Draft and/or prepare reports, development agreements, RFPs, and other legal engineering documents, and support the service area in addressing resident and community concerns.
  • Review servicing implications of development proposals (e.g., subdivisions, site plans, Committee of Adjustment applications, secondary plans), liaise with the outsourced Municipal Engineer and consultants, and provide engineering comments to Planning on draft plan approvals.
