What will you be doing!
  • Completing fire safety assessments associated with the fire protection screening process.
  • Describing the conditions to consider when inspecting and testing fire protection systems.
  • Verifying and/or validating design features.
  • Assisting with oversight of the site's fire protection and fire department emergency service agreements and their implementation.
  • Preparing engineering documents such as Design Requirements, Design Descriptions, Work Activity Plans, Test Plans, and Test Reports.
  • Managing, creating, and reviewing emergency response planning and documentation.
  • Assisting with fire investigations and other accident/incident investigations as required.
  • Assessing design, operational, inspection, testing and maintenance requirements.
  • Issuing emergency and weather alerts to site staff (Douglas Point site).
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What We Are Looking For
  • Education
    • Engineering or applied science degree in Fire Protection, Mechanical, Electrical or Civil Engineering preferred.
    • Degree with 3 years’ experience preferred, or Diploma or Post Graduate Certificate in Emergency Management from a recognized Post-Secondary Institution, with 5 years of related work experience, or have 5-8 years of relevant work experience in emergency management and/or a Security or Fire program management field.
    • Certification to NFPA 1031 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Level 1.
    • Certification to NFPA 1031
      -Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Inspector and Plan Examiner Level 2 within 3 years of the start date.
    • Certification to NFPA 1033 - Standard for Professional Qualifications for Fire Investigator preferred or acquired within 3 years of the start date.
    • Certification to NFPA 1035 – Standard for Professional Qualifications for Public Fire and Life Safety Educators acquired within 3 years of the start date.
    • Post-secondary education in Fire Protection Technology would be an asset.
  • Experience
    • Two or more years of experience working on fire protection systems or design is preferred.
    • Five plus years of work experience in emergency management is preferred.
    • Demonstrated ability to make oral and other presentations using various administrative and audio/visual platforms such as Word, Publisher, and Microsoft Power Point
    • Demonstrated experience or knowledge of sprinkler and fire alarm systems.
    • Experience in inspections and enforcement of regulations.
    • Experience in reading blueprints, floor plans, etc.
    • Experience in the delivery of Public Education.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Solid understanding of the National Building Code, National Fire Code, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA, and CSA N-393 standards and their applications, as well as the ability to keep abreast of any changes.
    • Knowledge of the National Fire Code of Canada, National Building Code and other related standards.
    • Must be familiar with the Canada Labour Code.
    • Ability to interpret and communicate Codes, Standards and Policies to facility staff.
    • Ability to write reports and communicate these reports to peers, staff, and managers.
    • Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint is an asset.
    • Emergency management drill/exercise design and implementation.
    • Demonstrated knowledge on how to develop, manage and maintain emergency response plans and procedures.
    • Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment.
    • CSA N1600 General Requirements for Nuclear Emergency Management Programs.
    • Federal and Provincial nuclear emergency response plans and legislation.
