We are seeking a highly motivated and collaborative individual to join our team. As the Assistant Harbour master
, reporting to the Harbour master, the Assistant Harbour Master is a seasonal position that assists the Harbour Master with administration and daily operations of the Port Elgin Harbour. The incumbent assists in minor maintenance and upkeep of dock facilities. The incumbent also acts as Harbour master in the absence of the Harbour master. Supervision may be exercised over a small number of regular maintenance or seasonal personnel in the absence of the Harbour master.
You'll Do
- Allocate and disperse slip assignments within the Harbour.
- Provide direct customer service to Harbour users and visitors. Respond to questions and educate users on the policies and appropriate use of Harbour facilities.
- Resolve concerns with Harbour users on slip assignment and boater relations.
- Allocate staff work assignments.
- Conduct safety observations of staff.
- Oversee staff scheduling and coordination.
- Oversee daily maintenance.
- Administer point of sales operations and transactions.
- Order fuel.
- Add fuel supplements to storage tanks.
- Fill vessels with fuel.
- Pump out vessel holding tanks.
- Ensure the safety, security and orderly operations of the Harbour.
- Perform minor maintenance, washroom cleaning, fish cleaning station cleaning and maintenance, trash collection during shoulder seasons prior to and after student staff availability.
The Role
- Education:
Marine Radio Operator License and Pleasure Craft Operator License is required;
Small Vessel Operator Proficiency Certification and Small Craft Proficiency Certification are considered an asset. - Experience:
One year related work experience. - Adaptability:

- Salary: $29.47 to $33.49 per hour (depending on skills and experience).
