, part of the iconic Churchill Downs, Inc. family, the Security Shift Supervisor plays a vital role in keeping the excitement going while ensuring the safety of our guests, team members, and property. Reporting to the Security Manager, you’ll take charge of daily security operations, guide and support your team, and respond to any situation with professionalism and precision. From overseeing patrols to handling emergencies, you’ll be on the front lines of creating a safe, welcoming experience for everyone who walks through our doors. You'll help build a strong team, make critical decisions in the moment, and ensure everything runs smoothly—all while being part of the thrill that only the gaming and racing industry can offer.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESLeadership & Oversight
Supervise, coach, schedule, and, when necessary, discipline security officers.
Assign posts, monitor staffing levels, and maintain accurate shift logs and activity reports.
Safety & Asset Protection
Provide visible patrols of gaming areas, back‑of‑house, and perimeter grounds.
Escort cash transfers, verify access to restricted areas, and monitor surveillance, alarm, fire‑safety, and lighting systems.
Enforce entry requirements (age, credentials, etc.) and respond to altercations, theft, vandalism, fire, trespass, or other illegal acts.
Lead initial investigations, collect statements, preserve evidence, and coordinate with law enforcement or medical responders.
Execute traffic control, crowd management, evacuation, and incident‑command procedures during emergencies.
Communication & Guest Service
Relay clear, concise information via radio, phone, and written reports.
Build guest rapport by greeting, assisting, and providing directions or event information.
Regulatory & Policy Compliance
Train officers on department SOPs, KHRC standards, first aid/CPR/AED, defensive tactics, and alcohol‑service laws.
Ensure officers uphold all security directives, safety regulations, and company values.
Administrative Duties
Prepare incident, injury, and daily activity reports.
Maintain equipment inventories and recommend process improvements.
Perform additional related duties as assigned.
REQUIREDSKILLS AND ABILITIES
Proven ability to lead, motivate, and evaluate a security team.
Calm, decisive demeanor under pressure with strong problem‑solving and conflict‑resolution skills.
Proficient verbal and written communication; able to draft clear reports and testify if required.
Working knowledge of CCTV, alarm panels, radios, and MSOffice (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
Valid driver’s license; ability to drive company vehicles.
Must obtain/maintain:
First Aid/CPR/AED certification
Defensive driving & defensive tactics credentials
Standard Crime Scene Investigation training
KHRC security license
- Must be at least 21 years of age or older to apply
- High school Diploma or GED required
- Minimum two (2) years of law enforcement or security experience with supervisory duties.
