Job Summary

Cleans and sanitizes following established policies and procedures to maintain high standards of cleanliness and sanitation throughout Memorial Healthcare. Will clean patient rooms, nursing units, surgical areas, administrative offices, and laboratory areas, waiting areas, physician offices and public restrooms. Using various cleaning chemicals and disinfectants, the aide wipes equipment, beds, cleans furniture, dusts, wet mops floors and vacuums carpets. Responsible to make beds, empty trash and replenish paper products.

The aide collects dirty laundry from all patient areas. Strives for superior performance by consistently providing a product or service to leadership and staff that is recognized as ultimately contributing to the patient and family experience. Recognizes and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for cleaning assigned areas:
    • Dust, mop, plaster, and vacuum in accordance with department procedures.
    • Empties, cleans, and sanitizes all waste receptacles daily except dirty utility receptacles which should be cleaned once per month or more as needed.
    • Cleans water fountains daily and as needed.
    • Damp wipes furniture.
    • Cleans windows, window sills, screens, and casings.
    • Cleans doors, door frames, and hinges.
    • Spot washes walls when needed.
    • Cleans and polishes mirrors.
    • Cleans restrooms, including tiles, chrome fixtures, mirrors and vents.
    • Replenishes all supplies such as paper towels, soap, tissues and equipment as needed.
    • Wears appropriate PPE (Personal Protective Equipment – goggles, gloves, protective gowns).
  • Cleans patient rooms:
    • Performs all cleaning tasks listed under #1 above.
    • Thoroughly washes and sanitizes bed, bedside stand, over-bed table, desk, closet, and any other furniture in the room.
    • Rechecks walls, ceilings and grids for total washings.
    • Checks condition of floor and notifies Department Head/Supervisor if floor needs to be redone.
    • Places tent cards and hangs "patient ready" signs on the door when finished.
    • Maintains full complement of supplies in carts for housekeeping closets; carts and closets must be fully stocked at the end of each shift.
    • Prepares own cleaning solutions as needed and follows directions accurately.
    • Completes monthly side work on a timely basis, within the month due.
    • Demonstrates knowledge of and supports hospital mission, vision, value statements, standards, policies and procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality statements, corporate compliance plan, customer service standards, and the code of ethical behavior.

Job Specifications Education
  • High School graduate or G.E.D. required.
Experience
  • Previous housekeeping experience is preferred. On‑the‑job training will be provided.
Essential Physical Abilities/Motor Skills

These physical requirements are not exhaustive and additional job‑related physical requirements may be added on an as‑needed basis. Corrective devices may be used to meet physical requirements.

  • Frequent standing, kneeling, crouching; daily movement, sit, climb stairs and bend. Frequently lift and carry up to 20 lbs.; may be required to push, pull or carry items between 20–100 lbs.
  • Vision:
    Requires the ability to perceive the nature of objects by the eye. Near acuity:
    Clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Mid‑range acuity:
    Clarity of vision at distances of more than 20 inches and less than 20 feet.
  • Motor coordination:
    Must be able to regularly perform functions that include using hand and finger movements, handling or feeling objects, using tools or equipment that requires reaching with hands and arms. Must be able to travel independently throughout the hospital; access patients/families including areas confined by space and/or equipment.
  • Speaking/Hearing:
    Ability to give and receive information through speaking and listening.
