Overview
Under the guidance of the Practice Manager, Clinical Service Specialist, Operation Managers, and Physician, the Clinical Service Specialist will assist with patient assessment and care, maintain appropriate documentation, maintain the clinical area, and perform clinical procedures. Strives for superior performance by contributing to the patient and family experience and demonstrates understanding of patient and family centered care.
PrimaryJob Responsibilities
- Complete nursing assessments appropriate to chief complaint including vital signs and other measurements as indicated by condition or age; document findings in the medical record and alert the physician to significant abnormalities.
- Review patient medications at each visit and document current medications.
- Prepare patients physically and psychologically for exams and procedures with appropriate protection, explanation, and age-appropriate reassurance.
- Provide patient education based on identified needs (re: diagnosis, procedures, contraception, home care, etc.).
- Function within the limits of education and provider/policy guidelines.
- Order and stock necessary clinical supplies and manage inventory to control usage and loss.
- Ensure equipment is well-maintained and cleaned according to manufacturer directions, with routine maintenance and quality control measures.
- Demonstrate knowledge of sterile technique and universal precautions as appropriate.
- Perform laboratory tests as requested by the physician and log results for follow-up.
- Greet patients and escort them to the exam area; perform history and physical portions of exams and document findings.
- Assist physicians with procedures as directed; prepare and clean patient areas and set up equipment as needed.
- Administer and document medications (oral, IM, subcutaneous, subdermal) as ordered by the physician.
- Assist with patient discharge and triage by phone, coordinating orders when appropriate and documenting in the chart.
- Telephonically transmit prescriptions to pharmacies, differentiating controlled substances as required.
- Maintain supplies and stock medications needed for daily operations; ensure patient consent forms are completed for procedures requiring them.
- Demonstrate professional conduct and effective communication with patients, physicians, staff, and other hospital personnel.
- Maintain medical records in accordance with procedures and privacy requirements; ensure confidentiality and patient right to privacy.
- Assist in identifying areas of concern in clinical aspects of the department and participate in problem-solving and process improvements.
- Demonstrate flexibility in response to changes in workload, staffing, and scheduling.
- Perform other duties as assigned by Operations Manager or Physician and support patient safety, equipment use, and compliance with policies.
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing with current Michigan RN license.
- Two (2) years of recent RN experience in a physician practice setting is desired.
- Physical: ability to lift and carry up to 20 lbs; may require pushing/pulling items up to 100 lbs; ability to stand, bend, kneel, and move about as needed.
- Vision and Hearing: good near and distance vision; ability to hear for work-related purposes.
- Motor Skills: proficient hand–eye coordination and use of equipment; ability to travel within the facility to access patient areas.
- Technical: proficiency with office, computer, and telephone equipment.
- Mental: ability to adapt in fast-paced and changing environments; capacity to interpret varied documents and maintain focus.
- Professional, courteous communication with co-workers, patients, physicians, and the public; ability to remain calm under adversity; teamwork mindset; proactive and cooperative attitude.
- Adheres to mission, vision, values, policies, procedures, and confidentiality requirements; supports safe patient care and ethical behavior.
