Job Description

The Lining & Coating Utility worker will operate machinery, inspect products, and assist in production of lining and coating components for complex industrial equipment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Follow all processes and procedures associated with the Tyler Union Safety Management Program. Advise management of any deviations from this program.
  • Operate machinery used in the production process or assist machine operators.
  • Examine products to verify conformance to quality standards.
  • Observe equipment operations so that malfunctions can be detected and notify operators of any malfunctions.
  • Lift raw materials, finished products, and packed items manually or using hoists.
  • Count finished products to determine if product orders are complete.
  • Mark or tag identification on parts.
  • Load and unload items from machines, conveyors, and conveyances.
  • Help production workers perform duties of lesser skill, such as supplying or holding materials or tools or cleaning work areas and equipment.
  • Use appropriate tools to finish castings based on quality specifications.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment.
  • Record information, such as the number of products tested, meter readings, or dates and times of product production.
Qualifications

Education and Experience
  • High school diploma or GED certificate (preferred).
  • One (1) to three (3) years of related on-the-job experience required.
  • Previous work experience in a foundry or heavy manufacturing environment preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge required to perform this job includes production and processing; mechanical.
  • Skills required include operation monitoring; reading comprehension; active listening; complex problem solving; critical thinking; and operation and control.
  • Abilities required include trunk strength; arm‑hand steadiness; manual dexterity; near vision; static strength; written comprehension; finger dexterity; multi‑limb coordination; oral comprehension; reaction time; category flexibility; control precision; information ordering; oral expression; problem sensitivity; selective attention; speech clarity; speech recognition; and visualization.
Physical Requirements
  • Moderately heavy lifting/carrying equal to 40–50 pounds; frequent carrying or lifting greater than 40 times per hour.
  • Bending below the waist; occasional bending at waist.
  • Pushing/pulling maximum weight of 25 pounds un‑wheeled; twisting torso at waist.
  • Use of fingers and both hands; ability to grasp medium with right/left hands; ability to flex/extend right/left hands;
  • Ability to do repetitive work with hands.
  • Must wear gloves on right/left hands; use tools with right/left hands; use vibrating tools with right/left hands.
  • Standing, walking, moving neck forward/back and turning left/right.
  • Ability to work in high temperatures, high humidity, inside/outside, on slippery, uneven, or unstable surfaces, around moving machinery, dust and fumes; and wear a respirator.
  • Must wear common and job‑specific protective or safety equipment, including but not limited to safety shoes, glasses, gloves, hearing protection, and hard hats.

Additional Information

All newly employed hourly workers must have satisfactory performance & attendance to satisfy all requirements of the mandatory 480‑hour probationary period.
