Visiting Instructional Assistant Professor

The Department of Psychology at The University of Mississippi invites applications for a visiting, full-time, 9‑month appointment at the Instructional Assistant rank with an anticipated start date of August 2025. This is a non‑tenure track position that is for one year and renewable for up an additional year. The standard teaching load is four courses each fall and spring semester.

Responsibilities

The candidate filling this position will be asked to teach a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses including but not limited to:
Introduction to Psychology, Brain and Behavior, Drugs and Behavior, Physiological Psychology, and other courses in the faculty member’s specialty. Course assignments will be made by the Director of Undergraduate Studies and Department Chair in consultation with the faculty member.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must have completed or be on track to complete a PhD in Psychology or a related field (including, but not limited to cognitive neuroscience or behavioral neuroscience grounded in psychological science). Applicants who will be ABD at the time of appointment will be considered.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience in teaching graduate and/or undergraduate courses, especially in the courses listed above.

About Our Programs

The Psychology Department consists of 28 full‑time faculty members and over 60 graduate students. Graduate programs include the APA‑accredited doctoral program in Clinical Psychology and a doctoral program in Experimental Psychology. The Clinical Psychology program adheres to a scientist‑practitioner model of training, with a particular focus on evidence‑based approaches. The Experimental Psychology training program focuses on cognitive, developmental, and social psychology.

Faculty both within and across programs frequently collaborate on research.
