Scouting America is one of the largest youth organizations in the United States, with over 2.4 million youth participants and nearly one million adult volunteers. Founded in 1910, it has a long history of fostering responsible citizenship, character development, and self‑reliance in youth through diverse outdoor activities, educational programs, and partnerships with community organizations. The organization offers age‑specific programs, such as Cub Scouting, Scouts BSA, and Venturing, for youth ranging from kindergarten to age 20.

Scouting America is also a founding member of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. Its high‑adventure bases across the U.S. provide unique opportunities for camping, aquatics, hiking, and other outdoor activities.

Role Description

This is a full‑time hybrid role for a District Executive, based in Oxford, MS with the flexibility to work partially from home. The District Executive will be responsible for managing and strengthening relationships with local volunteers, community organizations, and businesses to promote and grow Scouting programs. Key responsibilities include recruiting and training volunteers, developing and implementing membership campaigns, securing financial resources to support programs, and planning and executing community events.

The role also involves fostering the values and mission of Scouting America while supporting its diverse programs to engage youth and families in meaningful experiences.

Qualifications
  • Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills to recruit, train, and manage volunteers effectively.
  • Fundraising, budgeting, and financial management experience to support program initiatives and community engagement.
  • Event planning, public speaking, and community outreach skills to coordinate and promote Scouting activities.
  • Knowledge or experience in youth development programs, outdoor activities, or educational initiatives is a plus.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively, with strong problem‑solving and multitasking capabilities.
  • Proficiency in common office software and tools, with an aptitude for learning new systems as needed.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience preferred. Previous non‑profit or Scouting experience is a bonus.
  • Willingness to work flexible hours, including some evenings and weekends, and to travel within the assigned district.
