PT Sales Associate Cashier – Food Lion

Primary Purpose

Provide fast, friendly, and flexible service to our customers, meeting Food Lion customer‑service standards while supporting the Customer Service Manager and Assistant Customer Service Manager. Maximise sales and maintain standards according to the Front End Standard Practice Manual.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Smile and provide prompt, accurate, and friendly service while engaging customers to create a positive shopping experience.
  • Greet each customer and use their name whenever possible.
  • Unload customers’ groceries from cart to belt‑unload items for ease of bagging (e.g., group cold items together).
  • Check the bottom of every cart and under all baby seats for items before completing an order.
  • Follow correct bagging procedures for the appropriate type of bags.
  • Scan customers’ orders and handle the payment transaction per standard practice.
  • Avoid personal conversations with other associates when customers are present.
  • Follow procedures in handling cash, checks, coupons, gift cards, partner cards, food stamps, and WIC vouchers.
  • Handle refunds and error corrections per procedure.
  • Maintain accurate cash control.
  • Execute required overrides.
  • Offer assistance to customers, including taking their order to their car.
  • Stay alert and call for assistance when needed to meet service standards.
  • Check prices quickly and accurately.
  • Be courteous and helpful to other associates.
  • Wear the Food Lion uniform with apron, complete name badge, and maintain a neat, clean appearance per the dress code.
  • Retrieve shopping carts from the parking lot and cart corrals using the tether strap per standard practice.
  • Ensure the front‑end workstation is neat and clean.
  • Report register malfunctions to the Customer Service Manager or MOD.
  • Keep the MVP savings center KIOSK stocked with paper and fully operational.
  • Adhere to all company guidelines, policies, and standard practices.
  • Identify and correct unsafe conditions that could cause accidents.
  • Notify QA of any cleaning or maintenance issues in the front end.
  • Successfully complete computer‑based training (CBT) and training‑aid courses.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High school graduate or equivalent preferred.
  • Effective communication and customer‑service skills.
  • Willingness to learn multiple tasks and meet the technical requirements of the cashier and service center.
  • Must meet minimum age requirements for specific job functions.
  • Must be able to meet the physical requirements of the position, with or without reasonable accommodations.
Physical Requirements
  • Use computers and other communication systems required to perform job functions.
  • Perform repetitive hand and arm motions.
  • Bend and lift products weighing up to 15 lb. continuously, 25 lb. frequently, and 50 lb. on occasion.
  • Pull or push up to 75 lb. on occasion.
  • Stand 100 % of the time, frequently walking short distances.
  • Handle substances associated with cleaning, packaging materials, fresh fruits, vegetables, house plants/flowers, and household cleaners.
  • Use hands to handle currency continuously and operate cart equipment such as cash register, scanner, and computer.
  • Frequently reach and grasp at waist level; occasionally above shoulder or below waist level.
  • Meet established volume activity standards for the position.
  • Tolerate extreme hot or cold temperatures for up to 20 minutes at a time.
  • Have adequate visual ability to check , checks, invoices, and other written documents.
  • Move empty bottles and containers from the front end to the back room where applicable.
