Role Overview
Our client, is an established firm of Accountants and due to a recent expansion of their client base, they are seeking a reliable and detail-oriented Temporary Bookkeeper to provide essential financial support during this busy period. This role will ensure accurate and timely processing of financial transactions and assist with maintaining up-to-date accounting records over a 4-month contract.
The successful candidate will work closely with the management team and the Practice staff to maintain financial accuracy and to take responsibility for a wide range of Bookkeeper duties.
Key Responsibilities as the Temporary Bookkeeper
Maintain day-to-day bookkeeping using accounting software (e.g. Xero, Sage, Quick Books or similar)
Process purchase invoices, sales invoices, and expenses
Manage accounts payable and receivable
Reconcile bank accounts and credit cards
Assisting with preparing and submitting VAT returns
Assist with monthly management accounts preparation
Monitor cash flow and report discrepancies
Support payroll processing
Maintain organised digital and paper financial records
Liaise with suppliers, clients, and external accountants as and when needed
Person Specification
Essential:
Proven experience in a bookkeeping role, ideally gained within a Firm of Accountants
Strong working knowledge of accounting software
Good understanding of UK VAT regulations
High level of accuracy and attention to detail
Ability to work independently and manage workload
Strong Excel skills
Excellent organisational skills
UK resident and previous UK experience is essential
Desirable:
AAT Qualified, or working towards, or Qualified by experience
Experience in a professional services environment
Payroll experience
Skills & Attributes

Proactive and able to meet deadlines
Strong communication skills
Adaptable and able to quickly understand existing systems
