About the Role

The Nuffield Department of Medicine (NDM) is looking for a proactive and reliable Facilities Assistant & Receptionist to help manage the daily operations of the Global Health Building on the Old Road Campus. This landmark building—opening mid‑2026—will bring together researchers and educators working at the forefront of global health, creating a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

Reporting to the Building and Facilities Manager, you will play a key role in supporting the efficient running of the building by providing high-quality reception and facilities services. You will be a welcoming first point of contact for staff, students, and visitors, while ensuring the smooth coordination of building maintenance, room setups, and safety procedures.

In this varied and hands‑on role, you will oversee the day‑to‑day operation of the reception area, respond to enquiries, and support the Facilities Management Team. You will monitor work requests, liaise with contractors, and ensure that maintenance tasks are completed promptly and to a high standard. You will also assist with setting up meeting rooms and events, carrying out basic repairs and safety checks, and maintaining building security systems.

Working closely with colleagues across the department, you will help ensure that the Global Health Building operates efficiently, safely, and to the highest professional standards.

Qualifications

You will have good literacy and numeracy skills (equivalent to GCSEs in Maths and English) and experience in a customer‑focused or building maintenance role. You should have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office, be familiar with health and safety regulations, and demonstrate strong organisation, initiative, and attention to detail. The ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment and communicate effectively with a range of people is essential.

Formal training in manual handling or health and safety, or a relevant qualification such as a BTEC National Certificate, would be an advantage.

Application Process

Applications for this vacancy should be made online and you will need to upload a supporting statement and CV. Your supporting statement must explain how you meet each of the selection criteria for the post using examples of your skills and experience. Please restrict your documentation to your CV and supporting statement only. Any other documents will be requested at a later date.

Only applications received before 12 midday on 23 March 2026 will be considered. Please quote 183374 on all correspondence.
