Role details:

The purpose of this role is to Support the ward clinical staff by undertaking administrative tasks relating to staff development & training, communication & operational processes to ensure that a welcoming and professional greeting service is provided to patients and visitors; to ensure the smooth running of the admission and discharge process for patients on

the ward and to ensure accurate and timely completion of unit databases

Duties to include but not limited to:

* Act as a first point of contact in person or on the telephone for patients, relatives and visiting staff, welcoming them to the ward and dealing with any queries, including those relating to admission, discharge, visiting times, claiming expenses, accommodation, insurance and parking.

* Assist patients who may wish to claim expenses.

* Booking transport for patients and completing discharge summaries

* Liaise with patients/relatives to issue patient sickness certificates and relative parking permit forms referring any queries regarding these to the ward manager or unit coordinator.

* Answering telephone calls from General Practitioners regarding referrals to the Day Hospital. Involving the input, checking, updating and amendment of personal patient data on EPR.

* Scanning patients medical reports. Ensuring that all medical notes are scanned in timely manner.

* Monitoring message pool within EPR for referrals, ensuring appointment are made under correct speciality and under correct consultant.

* Ensuring the referral letter is available prior to the appointment.

* Record and maintain information on the patient administration system (Cerner Millennium), ensuring that all recorded data is in adherence with the Data Protection Act.

This role may require you to show evidence of vocational level 3 qualification or at least 2 years relevant experience.

 1. An in depth understanding of the roles and responsibilities involved in working within the NHS

 2. Knowledge of the systems used, to effectively complete your role to the highest standard at all times

 3. A sense of teamwork, gained through working alongside and supporting colleagues from all levels, within the organisation

You’ll have the following skills/experience:

* Excellent communication skills, able to demonstrate examples of having dealt with challenge

* Previous experience working in a healthcare setting.

* Good level of IT literacy: able to use Microsoft packages confidently.

* Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
