Responsibilities

Provide comprehensive and confidential administrative and clerical support to the Day Surgery Unit Team in accordance with departmental and Trust standards. Maintain a well‑organised system and ensure processes are kept up to date to aid smooth patient care from admission to discharge. Provide support and guidance to colleagues internally and externally in a professional and informed manner.

The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of normal duties, and as such the role is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) and Order 2020. A Disclosure and Barring Service check is required.

The role is in a challenging, busy environment providing a comprehensive administrative service. The postholder will work closely with patients coming into the unit and all relevant staff members. Flexibility in working hours is required, including covering team members with sickness and annual leave.

Qualifications
  • Good general education with excellent literacy, attention to detail and communication skills.
  • Good level of IT skills.
  • NHS experience or experience in a customer service environment.
  • Proven ability to work as a team member.
  • Previous experience working in a healthcare setting.
  • Administrative and Electronic Patient Record (EPR) experience with accurate attention to detail.
  • Excellent telephone and communication skills.
  • Ability to work under pressure.
  • Flexibility in approach to work and in responding to changing needs of the service/team.
  • Ability to adopt a sensitive approach to difficult situations when dealing with patients and relatives.
  • Excellent customer service experience.
  • Experience working in the NHS.
