Rebellion is looking for a Senior VFX Artist who will set the artistic and technical standards for real‑time visual effects on an exciting new large‑scale project. You will work with our proprietary Asura engine, creating particle systems, screen post‑processing, material‑driven effects, mesh destruction, and custom UI animations.
This is a senior position with a clear path to a Lead VFX Artist role. You will mentor junior artists, design scalable studio workflows, and support the VFX team’s mission to deliver visceral, high‑performance effects for shooter gameplay.
CoreRoles & Responsibilities Artistic Execution & Systems Ownership
- End‑to‑End Asset Creation: Drive the creation of world‑class real‑time effects from early prototyping to final, optimized in‑engine implementation.
- Holistic FX Tracking: Author real‑time particle simulations, screen post‑processing filters, material modifiers, physics‑driven mesh destruction layouts, and fluid UI interactions.
- Abstract Concept Translation: Turn high‑level design documents or artistic direction into highly optimised, performant visual effects that enhance the narrative.
- Pipeline Architecture: Anticipate performance bottlenecks, pitch creative workarounds, and build efficient tool pipelines inside the Asura engine.
- Current‑Gen Profiling: Maintain strict console performance budgets, overdraw limits, and source‑control hygiene.
- Resource Library Management: Contribute to internal documentation, shader reference libraries, and optimised effect presets for the wider team.
- Empathetic Mentoring: Support junior and mid‑level artists, sharing best practices in colour theory, timing, composition, and technical execution.

Work closely with code, design, and environment art teams to ensure VFX systems integrate cleanly with gameplay mechanics and performance goals.
- Proven Industry Background: Deep professional experience in real‑time VFX production with a portfolio demonstrating exceptional timing, spatial clarity, and technical mastery.
- Shooter Pipeline Literacy: Solid understanding of the visual language of high‑fidelity kinetic action games (weapon fire, hit feedback, atmospheric smoke).
- DCC Tool Proficiency: Advanced skill using Blender, Photoshop, Substance, and After Effects.
- Simulation Expertise: Direct experience with Houdini and Embergen for fluid dynamics, simulations, and flip‑book textures.
- Optimization
Skills:
Familiarity with engine profiling utilities, shader complexity limits, and real‑time performance optimisation techniques.
