CLINICAL FELLOW / SPECIALIST REGISTRAR LEVEL IN ENDOCRINE SURGERY

One-year post in Endocrine Surgery is available at the Churchill Hospital, Oxford for a specialist registrar (ST5‑8). Post starts July 2026. The role includes participation in the Emergency General Surgical rota at the John Radcliffe Hospital.
Eligible candidates include those who cannot work full-time; suitable job‑share candidates will receive serious consideration. Paid modifications will be discussed on a personal basis.

Outpatient clinics: Attend over 40‑50 patients per week under the supervision of two consultants and one senior fellow. Clinical assessment of neck lumps, decision on appropriate investigations, interpretation of metabolic tests for hyper‑calcaemia and adrenal function, and understanding of radiological imaging (e.g., retrosternal goiters, localisation of parathyroid adenoma, adrenal tumours).
Operating lists: Three operating lists (28 hours) per week with extensive exposure to thyroid, parathyroid and adrenal surgery (total of 500 endocrine cases per year). This unit has the largest adrenal workload and one of the largest thyroid/parathyroid workloads in the UK (based on BAETS audit).

Person specification- GMC registration
- MRCS or equivalent
- FRCS or equivalent
- SCF – in year ST 7‑8 of General Surgical training or equivalent SpR – ST 5‑8
- Hospital appointment at SpR level or equivalent
- General training in General Surgery and Emergency/Trauma Surgery; minimally invasive surgery
- Advanced laparoscopic surgery skills
- Advanced training in Emergency General and Trauma Surgery
- Previous experience in thyroid and parathyroid surgery
