Position: Locally Employed Doctor - Adult Psychiatry

Recruitment Notice

We are recruiting a Locally Employed Doctor to join our Adult Psychiatry Inpatient services at Oxford Health NHS. This is a full‑time 10 PA role with a job plan split of 9 DCC: 1 SPA.

The LED will participate in job planning with the supervising consultant; the exact nature of the timetable will be agreed with the successful applicant.

Role Overview

This role involves day‑to‑day management of inpatients on the wards, including contribution to ward‑rounds, CPA review, discharge planning meetings and Mental Health Act manager or tribunal hearings. It also requires liaison with the Community Mental Health team to ensure coordinated clinical care of patients, support assessment and management of patients brought to the Health Based Place of Safety, and provision of timely written correspondence documenting assessments, progress and discharge summaries using Trust IT.

  • Work collaboratively with other agencies to manage smooth and timely transfer into and out of the unit.
  • Contribute to the collection of data as required by the Trust and other relevant agencies.
  • Cross‑cover with specialty doctors and trainees for Ashurst Ward during annual leave, study leave and brief periods of sickness absence; occasional cover may be required for Allen, Wintle and Vaughan Thomas wards.
Timetable and Training

Proposed timetable (to be negotiated with Supervising Consultant). SPA time is expected to include the following areas:

  • Special interest clinical activities
  • Mandatory training
  • Supervision
  • Governance / audit
  • Service development, management and business planning
Work Site

Phoenix Ward is located at Littlemore Hospital site and is an acute male ward for adults of working age, with approximately 2–3 admissions, 4–6 discharges and about 4 tribunals per week.

Ward round: 2/0 Tuesday;
Handover, consultant meeting, consultant supervision group, admin SPA 1/1 Wednesday;
Handover, urgent reviews/admin, ward work/SPA 2/0 Thursday;
Handover, ward round, ward round 2/0 Friday;
Handover, junior doctor supervision SPA/ward work 2/0. Total DCC: SPA = 9/1.
