Support Children with Emotional and Mental Health Needs

We are working with a welcoming and nurturing school in the heart of Oxford , seeking a Mental Health Teaching Assistant to join their dedicated team. The role is available to start ASAP.

About the role as a Mental Health Teaching Assistant:

As a Mental Health Teaching Assistant, your primary focus will be to support children who are struggling to manage their emotions and mental health. Many of these pupils have experienced significant trauma or adverse childhood experiences and need consistent, compassionate support to thrive in school.

Your role will involve:

Providing 1:1 or small group emotional support to children with mental health challenges.
Helping students to build confidence, develop healthy coping strategies, and regulate their emotions.
Supporting the class teacher with lesson preparation, classroom management and tailored interventions.
Working alongside a skilled team, including SEN staff, therapists, and other professionals.
Modelling positive behaviours and encouraging social and emotional development.

The ideal Mental Health Teaching Assistant:

A calm, patient and emotionally resilient individual with a genuine interest in supporting children's mental health.
Previous experience with children is essential; experience supporting children with SEN or emotional/behavioural needs is highly desirable.
A strong team player with excellent communication skills.
Someone who is proactive, compassionate, and ready to make a real difference in young lives.
