ResponsibilitiesAn exciting opportunity has arisen to join our amazing Technical Services Team within School Operations. We are seeking a proactive, reliable individual to join our team, which supports teaching and research facilities in the College of Health & Life Sciences. The successful candidate will join the Laboratory Operations team, where you will provide day‑to‑day technical support for our teaching facilities across Biosciences, Pharmaceutics, and Neuroscience subject groups.
This is a varied and rewarding role where you will work closely with academic staff, professional services colleagues, and students to ensure our laboratories run smoothly, safely, and effectively.
- Liaising with academic stakeholders to understand and support teaching programmes
- Preparing laboratories for practical class sessions
- Purchasing chemicals and consumables needed for practical class sessions
- Providing hands‑on training to staff and students on laboratory equipment and techniques
- Providing Health and Safety advice and ensuring facilities are compliant
We are looking for a practical, organised individual with a strong commitment to teamwork and customer service. You will thrive in a busy, dynamic environment and enjoy working with a diverse range of people, from students to academic staff and external suppliers. The successful candidate will hold A Levels or equivalent Level 3 qualifications relevant to the role, and experience of working in a laboratory setting in Biosciences is beneficial, although full training will be provided.
Aston University is committed to the Technician Commitment and to supporting the career development of technical staff across all disciplines. You will be supported to undertake a range of training and development activity including placements at other universities. As a minimum, you will undertake relevant technical and health & safety training.
This role is a permanent, part‑time position. The working pattern is full‑time hours for 35 weeks a year between September and May (with 2 weeks off at Christmas and Easter) to align with the main teaching periods.
